Raipur Province Conducts Safeguarding Oath-Taking Ceremony and Policy Release

A significant milestone in promoting a culture of care and accountability was marked as the Raipur Province conducted the online Oath-Taking Ceremony of the Province Safeguarding Commission (PSC) and Unit Safeguarding Officers (USO) via Zoom.

The programme was presided over by Rev. Sr. Marykutty Antony, Provincial Superior and President of the PSC, and brought together members of the safeguarding commissions, sisters of the province, and invited resource persons. The gathering began with a prayer invoking the guidance of the Holy Spirit, followed by a warm welcome from Sr. Rose Mary Thumma, Province Safeguarding Coordinator.

In her inaugural address, Rev. Sr. Marykutty Antony emphasized the urgent need to uphold safeguarding principles in all ministries, ensuring the dignity and protection of minors and vulnerable adults. She acknowledged the foundational efforts of past leadership and appreciated the collaborative work behind establishing the safeguarding structures and policy.

A key highlight of the event was the official release of the Province Safeguarding Policy, presented by Sr. Pushpy Michael. This policy marks a major step toward institutionalizing safeguarding practices across the province.

An informative orientation session by Rev. Fr. Ligo Mathew provided insights into safeguarding from canonical and procedural perspectives, including reporting mechanisms and preventive measures within Church structures.

The members of the Province Safeguarding Commission were formally introduced, representing diverse professional expertise such as canon law, education, psychology, healthcare, and media. This multidisciplinary team reflects a comprehensive approach to safeguarding.

During the solemn oath-taking ceremony, the PSC members pledged to uphold the dignity and rights of all individuals, maintain confidentiality and integrity, and ensure zero tolerance toward any form of abuse. The Unit Safeguarding Officers from various communities also took their oath, committing themselves to actively implement safeguarding practices at the grassroots level.

The event concluded with words of encouragement from Rev. Sr. Marykutty Antony, urging all members to remain vigilant and dedicated in their mission. A note of appreciation acknowledged the contributions of all those involved in organizing the programme and promoting safeguarding awareness.

The ceremony stands as a strong reaffirmation of the Province’s commitment to creating safe environments rooted in Gospel values, respect, and responsibility.
