09 Nov 2025 - 30 Nov 2025
As we celebrate the feast of Christ the King on November 23, 2025, the following is the meditation of Fr. Wolff on Jesus Christ is our king. Let the following meditation be a preparation for us to enter into the advent.
X I . CONSIDERATION. (Wolff, Grondregels, 258-260)
JESUS CHRIST IS OUR KING.
1. Preparation. See Jesus Christ on an exalted throne of glory, surrounded by angels and the elect, singing: Holy, holy, holy is our God, Lord and King!
2. Preparation. Ask for grace to be able to sing this in heaven one day.
1. Point. Jesus is our King from eternity; He has also redeemed us in a special way through His precious blood, and we belong to Him. He has drawn us out of the clutches of the devil and wants to make us happy for all eternity. Blessed and praised be our God and King Jesus Christ in the Most Holy Sacrament! There we must worship Him as our King and God and submit ourselves completely to Him; but what have I done in those unfortunate moments when I forgot that Jesus Christ was my God and King, and when I willfully and recklessly wanted to surrender myself to the tyranny of the devil? Oh, Lord! Think no more of my sins and forget my crimes, for they cause me sorrow.
2. Point. Jesus Christ our King takes possession of our hearts, especially in the Holy Sacrament, and desires to reign and rule as Lord and King. What an honor for me that the Lord of heaven and earth humbles himself so much as to come to such a miserable creature as I am! John the Baptist considered himself unworthy to untie the straps of Jesus Christ's sandals, and what shall I say when I consider that the same God and Man desires to come to me? I know well and I confess openly that I am unworthy to receive such an exalted guest and such a great Lord; but it is He Himself who calls me to Himself, and therefore I will go to Him with hope and firm confidence, and receive my Creator and Redeemer with great reverence.
3. Point. Jesus Christ desires that I welcome Him as my King and serve Him faithfully; immediately after Holy Communion, I will gather the strength of my soul and fall at Jesus' feet, thanking Him warmly for being willing to come to me. I will use my mind to thank Him for all the blessings He has bestowed upon me and upon all other people; my memory will remind me of how many dangers He has delivered me from, and for that too I will thank Him. I will surrender my will entirely to Him and submit myself in all circumstances to His divine will; I will dedicate my eyes, ears, and mouth, yes, my body and soul to Him, and finally I will dedicate Him Himself to the heavenly Father, humbly praying that He, because of the infinite merits of His beloved Son Jesus, may also receive me in grace and grant me the gift of perseverance. Amen.
Prayer by which one commits oneself to Jesus Christ.
