01 May 2025 - 08 May 2025
As we commemorate the heavenly birthday of Dr. Sr. Mary Glowrey on 5th May 2025, we remember a woman whose life was a luminous witness to the Gospel lived in action. Born in Australia and called to serve in India, Sr. Mary bridged continents with her compassion and united faith with science through her vocation as a doctor and religious sister.
Her legacy reminds us that healing, whether of the body, mind, or spirit, requires a deep reverence for the dignity of every human person. As the first nun-doctor permitted by Pope Pius XI to practice medicine, she saw no contradiction between her stethoscope and her rosary. Instead, she used both to listen to the cry of the poor and to the call of God.
To us, the members of the Congregation of Jesus Mary Joseph, let her life be a challenge and a consolation. Let it remind us that courage and humility can coexist, and that selfless service, offered quietly and persistently, changes the world in ways history may not always record, but heaven surely remembers. May the legacy of Dr. Sr. Mary Glowrey inspire a deeper commitment to justice, compassion, and faith-driven service. May her cause for sainthood also be a call for each of us to ask: how can we use our gifts, our professions, and our lives in service to those most in need?
As we honor her memory, let us continue her mission with the same grace, resilience, and unshakable faith that defined her journey.
Dr. Sr. Mary Glowrey, Servant of God—pray for us.
